HOW WE GOT HERE

Picture of HOW WE GOT HERE

Once upon a time, in a bustling town filled with joy and celebration, I found myself at my sister Martha’s wedding in the north. Accompanied by my close friend Glenn Ndjadila, who was practically bubbling with excitement—it was our first time attending a wedding together, and lucky for me, it was the first one i attended without the responsibilities of Djing.

As the weekend unfolded, me and Glenn settled into a cozy guest house in Ongwediva. The festivities kicked off first in Onekwaya West , followed by a second reception in Onjito Ongenga. The air was electric with laughter, dancing, and heartfelt toasts.

After the second reception, a lively afterparty awaited everyone in Omungwelume, a place only 41 km away from our accommodation. The atmosphere was joyful, brimming with high energy, cold beverages, and amazing company. It was a celebration that felt both vibrant and carefree.

However, as the night deepened, I felt a twinge of responsibility. I had planned to head back to Ongwediva to rest, but Glenn had other plans. Enthusiastically, he declared, “Brother, the party is too lit! I’m staying here.” After some back and forth, I made the decision to leave Glenn amidst new faces, trusting he would be safe.

The next morning, I needed to retrieve Glenn before embarking on our drive back to Windhoek. Arriving in Omungwelume, I spotted Glenn having the time of his life, mingling like he belonged to the family hosting the gathering. “We need to hit the road,” I urged, but he insisted on relaxing by the pool for just a little while longer.

That’s when I noticed her—Hendrina—sitting nearby with her friends. My heart skipped a beat, and as if drawn by some invisible thread, I approached her. “What’s your name?” I inquired, and when she replied, her radiant smile seemed to light up the entire area. “You are so beautiful,” I found myself saying, captivated by her presence. There was an undeniable something about her—the grace in her posture, her style, and the way she wore her clothes with such effortless elegance.

I offered to get her something to drink or eat, my eagerness overwhelming me. Yet, as the conversation progressed, i caught whispers from her friends warning me to tread carefully. “Watch out; he looks like a player,” one friend joked, while another cautioned me that Hendrina was already spoken for. Those words hit hard and left me feeling discouraged, but i had already imagined the possibilities.

As the day drew to a close, We parted ways, each going on with our lives seperatly. Yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something special had sparked. Fast forward a year later, as fate would have it, Hendrina started following me on Instagram. The notification set a flurry of excitement through me, and quick as a flash, i slid into her DMs.

What began as a friendly conversation soon evolved into deep late-night talks that covered everything from dreams to hopes. I was based in the north at that time, and demands of work kept me busy, but whenever she visited, I made it a priority to spend time together, nurturing that initial spark.

Eventually, the perfect opportunity arose for me to relocate back to Windhoek. It felt like the stars had aligned, and I didn’t hesitate to ask Hendrina out on a date. She chose Francisco restaurant at the Village Garden, close to her workplace. The cozy ambiance felt just right for this budding romance.

After finalising my move, I took a leap of faith. “Is it safe to say that I’m not single anymore?” I asked her, my heart racing with anticipation. The world felt electric as she replied with a resounding “YES!”

Fast forward two beautiful years, and here both stand, grateful for those serendipitous moments that brought us together. From a wedding celebration to a deep, loving relationship, the journey had transformed the both of us in unexpected, yet wonderful ways. ❤️
